The office of the president has clarified that there will be three days of national mourning in honor of late Veteran politician Isaiah Kulang Mabor.

All offices will remain open and national flag will be flying at half-mast.

Late Mabor died on the 1st of January 2015 in Khartoum.

Speaking to Eye Radio this morning, the Press Secretary in the Office of the President, Ateny Wek, said there was confusion about the nature of mourning as some offices remained close.

“The President of the Republic yesterday during his speech in the parliament on the wake of an icon, political icon Isaiah Kulang Mabor Deng, declared three day of national mourning, where the flag of the nation will run at half-mast,” Mr Ateny said.

“When the President spoke, the office of the President thought that the three days would be without people going to work, which we made the statement to the effect.

“Eventually, we realized that all the international norms and practice require that the three days to be the three days where people should be working and the flag should be run half-mast.

“So in order for us to commensurate or to go in conjunction with international requirements, we have thought  since we made the statement yesterday not for people to come to work, then those who have come to work should work and those who did not come to work shouldn’t be punished. ”

President Kiir says late Kulang was a national hero. He died in office as chairman of the Specialized Committee for Social Service and Natural Resources in the Council of States.
