The spokesperson of the National Parliament has denied media reports that a Member of Parliament was behind the gruesome road accident that killed at least seven people in Juba, on Saturday.

According to the traffic police, seven people were liked on the spot while dozens of others were injured when an intoxicated driver ran over pedestrians and motorists along the Gudele One – Rock City Street – in one of Juba’s most horrific accidents.

Police said the Toyota V8 vehicle, registered as SSD 996L, rammed into a building after knocking three people dead at the Seventh Day Roundabout before crushing four more people in the Rock City area.

Honorable John Agany said the allegations have it that the reckless driver was the MP Lual Deng Kuel, Chairman of a Committee in the National Legislative Assembly.

Agany clarified while addressing reporters, that lawmaker Deng was wrongly accused because his business card was found inside the car involved in the traffic accident.

However, Agany said that the car does not belong to the legislator but to the businessman who caused the accident, while confirming that the real suspect is being detained at the Kuburi Habuba police station.

“Categorically, we deny that the man who has committed the crime which is an accident was not categorically a member of parliament. He is a businessman. Only that he has a relationship with some of us, and it was unfortunate that the business card of Hon. Lual Deng Kuel was obtained in his car which is a personal relationship.

“The car doesn’t belong to us, is not belong to the National Legislative Assembly, the plate number of the car is 996 SSD L., I went and saw it. It’s something that people can’t deny, it’s something very graceful and we as the National Legislative Assembly passing our condolences to the nation and parents of the grieved.”
