Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programs, Adut Salva Kiir, has announced a major infrastructure boost for Rumbek University of Science and Technology (RUST), pledging the establishment of a modern science laboratory and a fully equipped library.
The announcement was made during the university’s recent multi-batch graduation ceremony, which saw hundreds of students from the 3rd through the 7th intakes receive their credentials. The graduating class included 322 bachelor’s degree holders and 154 diploma graduates across various disciplines.
Speaking at the event, the Envoy emphasized that the Office of the President views education as a fundamental pillar of national development. She noted that the new facilities are designed to transform the university into a competitive hub for research and innovation.
“My office, under the Office of the President, places education at the center of our development goals,” Adut stated. “We have planned a well-equipped modern library and laboratory to enhance academic excellence, providing students and faculty with the space needed to compete in an increasingly knowledge-driven world.”
The Envoy described the university as a “beacon of hope and progress,” praising its role in building South Sudan’s human capital. She added that plans are already underway to begin construction, ensuring that both staff and students have the necessary resources to meet international academic standards.
The graduation statistics highlighted a continued effort toward academic growth in the region, with 25 women earning bachelor’s degrees and 21 earning diplomas alongside their male colleagues.
Adut concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to “improvising and working on” key educational pillars to ensure graduates continue making meaningful impacts across the nation.
