Author : | Published: Monday, February 16, 2015

Civil society group CEPO is urging political and community leaders in Lakes State to adopt disarmament and accountability to reduce violence.

CEPO says cattle raiding, competition over grazing land and the absence of justice are the main causes of violence in the state.

CEPO says women, children and youth are the victims of the violence. At least 5 people die each week since the beginning of the year.

“The most vulnerable groups who always paid the price of the death are the youth, women and children at estimated rate of 2-5 persons per week and 5-10 persons per month since the beginning of this year 2015,” it said in a statement.

Political and community leaders of Lakes State and Bahr al-Ghazal region are holding a three-day peace conference in Rumbek to address inter-clan fighting.

The conference will end today.
