Vice President  and Chair of the Service Cluster, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, has discussed the establishment of an Alexandria University branch in Tonj with Hazem Mamdouh Fawzy.

The meeting took place in Juba on Monday and focused on cooperation in education and skills development.

According to a statement from the Vice President’s office, the discussions reviewed progress on the university project, which has remained stalled for several years despite earlier agreements between South Sudan and Egypt.

The project is intended to expand access to higher education in the Greater Bahr el Ghazal region but has faced delays linked to funding constraints, logistical challenges, and slow implementation.

Both sides discussed ways to revive and fast-track the initiative, citing its potential to build local capacity and reduce the number of students seeking education abroad.

The meeting also discussed plans to establish a technical college in Wau to equip young people with practical skills for the job market.

Officials say the initiatives form part of broader efforts to improve service delivery through education, capacity building, and employment opportunities. Discussions also covered scholarships and cooperation in healthcare and technology.

Vice President Abdelbagi also raised concerns about the welfare of South Sudanese citizens living in Egypt and called for continued support.
