About 90,000 people in Duk and Twic East counties are in need of humanitarian assistance, the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Jonglei has said.

These are mainly the internally displaced people and returnees from the neighboring states.

The acting director of the commission, James Jok Alier, says they arrived at the figures during an assessment they conducted last week.

“We went to Duk-padit and Poktap. Before we reached those places, we passed by Wernyol where we got 21,000 returnees,” Mr Jok told Eye Radio.

“In Duk-padiet ….we got 65,000 people in which 88% are IDPs from Uror and Nyirol.”

Mr Jok says the figure will be presented to aid organizations for intervention.

He appealed to the government to provide health facilities and school in the areas.
