At least six people are feared drowned after a vehicle carrying mourners disappeared into flooded Luri River near Juba this afternoon.

An eyewitness told Eye Radio that the Hillux Double Cabin, which was carrying about 20 people, was returning from the burial of late Paramount Chief Denis Daramulu who passed on last week.

The eyewitness, John Boutros, said 14 passengers were rescued, but the fate of the remaining six is unknown.

“Nearly 11 people have been taken to the hospital and around six are still stuck inside the car,” Mr Boutrus said.

The vehicle was reportedly completely submerged in the river. Luri is located approximately 15km north-west of Juba.
