More than 40, 000 children in Central Equatoria state will this month receive polio vaccines.

This is the fourth round of polio campaign launched by the state Ministry of Health.

The campaign targets children below the age of 5.

More than 1,000 health workers will be moving from house to house to administer the vaccine to children.

The state Minister of Health, Felix Ladu, said the exercise will be done in all the 6 counties of the state.

“The target population in this round is 40,800. The state ministry is therefore appealing to all citizens, religions and traditional leaders to disseminate the message on polio to the public in churches and all public places,” He said.

South Sudan has been free of polio since June 2009. The last case of the disease was reported in Terekeka County in 2008.
