In Nasir, four convicted criminals have escaped from prison in Upper Nile state.

The police say they’ve no clues as to where the men may have fled to.

The prisoners had been charged with robbing three different shops in the town on Tuesday.

A Criminal Investigation Department officer in Nasir, Stephen Khamis, says that police is still pursuing the fugitives.

“They probably escaped at night around 9 or 10pm.

“No one knows because we were doing patrols in the market.

“In the morning, we realized that the criminals had broken out of the prison made of iron sheet; they escaped from the back of the building.

“Four of them escaped, and two remained behind. No one knows where they ran to, but they are still prisoners and we will follow them wherever they go.”

This week in Nasir County, the acting executive director issued an order for all shops to be closed by 10 pm, so that police can conduct patrols aimed at addressing the level of crime in Nassir town.
