S. Sudanese student dies in plane crash in S. Africa

A South Sudanese aviation student and an Indian classmate have died in a plane crash in South Africa.

31-years- old Oyeiti Thomas and his colleague were co-flying a school plane over the weekend as part of their training at the Algoa Flying Club when they crashed at Port Elizabeth in South Africa.

“They were in their final stage just like two-to-three months to finish. They were done with final exams”, said Jago Thomas, a brother to the deceased.

Their plane reportedly disappeared mid-air on Saturday evening before crashing into a tree.

On Sunday, their bodies were retrieved from Port Elizabeth where the crash occurred.

Thomas, together with his colleague were finalizing their training skills when they died.

“They just took off for training flying proposed on Saturday evening with small plane, where their plane disappeared and crash on the same evening and people were searching it was found on Sunday,” he said.

“The plane developed some engine problem and it hit a tree. The plane belonged to the school, and they were two on board with his colleague from India.”

Thomas said the family is arranging to bring the body back home.

Another officer behind bars for killing wife, man in Juba

Police have detained a soldier who allegedly killed his wife together with another man at the New site residential area in Juba mid-last week.

The Spokesperson for the National Police Service says, the suspect found his wife and the unnamed man at home when he shot them dead.

According to Major General Daniel Justin, the incident occurred on Wednesday at around 2:30 AM local time.

“On the 22nd at 2pm when this military soldier came back home, he found his wife with another man and he shot her and the man,” he said.

The suspect whose name the police are withholding for security reasons, handed himself after committing the crime.

” He went and turned himself to the police.”

“We filed a police case. And the bodies were taken to the mortuary and the Soldier is under arrest,” General Daniel Justin added.

The incident happened barely a week ago after a man identified as Bobby Lual Akok shot dead his wife Rebecca Anyon Kot along with a man at Bedouin Lounge in Juba.

Armed civilians kill dozens of soldiers in Warrap State

Dozens of soldiers and seven civilians may have been killed in a cattle related clashes in Tonj North County of Warrap state, according to the State Information Minister.

The clashes which happened on Saturday involved SSPDF soldiers conducting cattle recovery and some armed youth in the area.

“On Saturday, the acting commissioner issued the order to soldiers to go and release some cattle. In the process, soldiers went to the cattle camp and released a number of cattle, but they were attacked by armed civilians.”

Ring Deng said those killed include the chief of military intelligence and the former Commissioner of Mayen Jur in the defunct Gogrial State.

“The fighting reached the Payam headquarters, then the soldiers withdrew before they reached and then went back to assist the fighting soldiers,” he said.

“In the course of the fighting, eighteen soldiers were confirmed killed and seven civilians dead, and there are some soldiers missing in action up to now.”

Eye Radio was not able to independently verify the death toll and the details of those killed in the incident.

However, the SSPDF spokesperson Maj. General Lul Ruai who is currently on a visit to Kenya could not comment on the matter.
