Farmers and fishermen in Manyo County of Upper Nile State received agricultural tools and fishing materials on Thursday from a Non-Governmental Organization to facilitate farming activities.

The tools included 100 watering cans, 4 generators, 30 wheelbarrows, machetes, hoes, spades, slashers, water pumps, and fishing threats.

The farmers and fishermen were given the tools after attending a 3-day training on modern fishing and farming techniques to improve their livelihoods.

John Bashir, the Acting County Coordinator for Relief and Rehabilitation Commission says the farmers lacked generators to support them in practicing farming.

“Our people have been facing a lack of generators particularly like in previous years people have been interested to do farming activities,” he said.

“Also, last year, more than ten people tried, but the products were low because they were sharing one generator. This year they got four generators which will give them more encouragement to do farming activities.”

Manyo County’s 54,000 population mostly live along the river bank, apparently due to easy water access, easy transportation and travel to other locations, animal grazing and farming.

During the 2022 rainy season, about 9 Payams and Bomas in the area were reportedly submerged by flooding.
