South Sudanese students studying in Kenyan public universities will no longer pay extra school fees.

This is according to a new policy introduced by the Kenyan ministry of education.

There are hundreds of South Sudanese students in public universities in the neighboring.

Most of them go to the University of Nairobi, Moi University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, and among others.

They pay about 120 per cent of the school fees.

The policy stipulates that students that are members of the Northern Corridor will not be subjected to extra charges in any of the countries starting January.

“Once it is harmonized, students will receive same treatment,” Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, told the Daily Nation website.

Students from Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda South Sudan will be treated equally.

However, those in Ethiopia, which joined the corridor in December, will have to await until after the next summit to enjoy the privileges.

Foreign students will be allowed to pay school fees in local currencies instead of dollars.
