The government chief whip in Gok State state assembly says one of his MPs, who was arrested in Tonj State, has been released after a week in detention.

Manyiel Mading says his colleague, John Aremic , was arrested while on a visit to his wife, who is resident in Tonj.

Mr Mading told Eye Radio that Mr Aremic was accused of leading youth in the past to attack an area in Tonj.

The chip whip says the charge was political; Mr Aremic was released on Thursday after a visit to Tonj by the Gok State Minister for local government.
