About 20,000 IDPs leave P.o.C. sites

Some 20,000 Internally Displaced People living UN camps around the country, especially in the area of Bentiu, are leaving the camps, say the UN Mission in the country.

It says the IDPs are returning home due to improved security in the area, and increased humanitarian response in Guit and Rubkona.

The UNMISS Spokesperson; Ariane Quentier told reporters that the IDPs are also living the camps due to the cultivating season.

“It is the planting season; it’s because they want to go back to their fields, they want to plant,” she said, addressing the media at the UN House, in Juba.

“They want to be able not to miss the harvest and feed their family and communities
Ms. Ariane says the UNMISS has deployed its troops in the area, especially in the South of Bentiu to ensure security.

UNMISS reports indicate that there are 177,234 IDPs currently living in the Protection of Civilians’ Sites in the country.
