Wau football-governing body in Western Bahr el Ghazal State has condemned the violent assault on a female referee by player who was sent off during a second-division match.

The incident occurred on Sunday during the game between Tadamon and Al-haly – where Ms. Sezarina Gabriel, a female referee red-carded Al-haly’s player named Mario over on-pitch misconduct.

But the player out of anger battered the referees as seen in several photos that have shocked social media.

The President of Wau Local Football Association, Santino Udol condemned the violent act and warns all football clubs against the “barbaric” violence.

“On behave of Wau Local Football Association, I the President of Wau Football Association strongly condemn the barbaric incident that has been committed by the player by beating our young female referee while she was carrying out her normal duties,” he said.

“It has happened at a time when we need female referees the most in our local association, and Sezarina Gabriel has been one of the few female referees that have endured time and with ambition.”

He says the association will address the matter according to article 50 and 48 of the football laws in the country.
