Juba road accident leaves dozens injured

Traffic Police in Juba City say at least 22 people are nursing different injuries after a truck carrying them overturned along Lobonok – Juba road.

The gruesome accident happened on Sunday – when the lorry overturned near Kit village, but it is not clear how many people were traveling in the vehicle.

Traffic Police Director Major General Zachariah Michael told Eye Radio that 14 of the 22 are in critical conditions, but were rushed to hospital for medical attention.

“This happened in Kit, the vehicle was coming from Lobonok and was carrying passengers in a tipper and when they reached near Kit, the vehicle overturned,” said General Zechariah.

“The overturning led to the injury of twenty-two people. Among the twenty-two, fourteen are in critical conditions but they have been rushed to the hospital,” he added.

But the Director-General of Juba Teaching Hospital said earlier that the facility has received about 35 injured survivors of the accident.

Dr. Anthony Lupai said, five of the casualties were referred to the military hospital after they were found to have encountered broken and fractured bones.

“I just got very brief information that yesterday a group of people coming from Lobonok they had an accident about thirty-five of them who were involved in the accident and then lucky enough,” said Lupai.

“Some of them were treated here in Juba Teaching Hospital and then the few about five were sent to the military hospital with fractures, that is the broken bones. So out of that five, one is a child of about six years and four were elders.”

Dr Lupai however said the hospital did not receive a report of a death casualty.
