Wani Igga rallies support for peace deal

Vice President James Wani Igga has called for support to the agreement on the resolution of the conflict.

There were demonstrations last month in Juba and some state capitals against some provision of the deal.

Mr Igga says rejecting the deal could lead to continued hunger across the country.

‘‘These same people who are actually demonstrating against this agreement in the streets, tomorrow when they go hungry they will be the people to turn, demonstrating against the government,” Mr Igga said at an event to launch work permits in Juba yesterday.

At the signing of the agreement in Juba last month, the government also expressed what it described as “serious reservations” against the deal.

But Mr Igga says these reservations should be for record purposes only.

“So please whatever your reservations, let those be reservations that we are all committed to for records purposes but the holistic results should be that we support the agreement,” he said.

Under the agreement, Mr Igga is to become second vice president after the leader of the SPLM in Opposition Dr Riek Machar.
