VP Taban says COVID-19 delayed Ramciel City master-plan

The Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster says the delay in completing the development of the master-plan for Ramcial City was due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The design of the conceptual layout to guide future growth and development of the proposed capital, is expected to take at least one year.

The process will include the demarcation of areas for roads, markets residential areas, and key government installations.

According to the South Sudan government, the development of the Ramciel City Master-Plan has an estimated cost of three million US dollars to be financed by the government of Morocco.

The Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster Taban Deng Gai said the master plan was expected to be out in February 2020.

He says the Moroccan and Korean companies achieved 90% of its design.

Deng was speaking to the state-owned television SSBC on Friday after meeting the Morocco company delegation that visited the country.

“The government of South Sudan has carried out major projects and achievements on special roads and bridges in Ramciel City. Some of you may be wondering why I took a long time to complete the master plan the delay was due to covid -19 pandemic,” said the Vice President.

“The work was paralyzed by the interaction and transitional continental coordination knows that part of the study carry in Morocco and the other part is carried out in Korai and the approval must come from South Sudan.

VP Deng, however, said the project is 90% complete.

Ramciel is in the former Lakes State, the central part of the country.

The proposed new capital city of Ramciel that will cost the nation 10 billion US dollars.

In 2017, President Salva Kiir issued an executive order forming a high-level committee led by then First Vice-President Taban Deng Gai to make the necessary preparations for the relocation of the nation’s capital city from Juba to the newly proposed site in Ramciel.

A year later, a team of Moroccan and Korean engineers started the technical development of the master plan for the proposed capital.
