The United States and Norway have called for direct political dialogue in South Sudan and improved management of public revenue, following a meeting between senior officials from both countries.

The remarks were made by U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos on his X account after discussions with State Secretary of Norway Andreas Kravik and Horn of Africa Envoy Endre Stiansen.

The talks took place alongside broader international diplomacy on Sudan, including a joint statement issued by the United States and partners Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, and the United Kingdom, together with the African Union (AU), European Union (EU), Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), League of Arab States (LAS), and the United Nations (UN).

The statement followed consultations in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from June 3–5, 2026, under the Quintet format involving the AU, IGAD, LAS, EU and UN, and built on a Sudan conference held in Berlin, Germany, on April 15, 2026.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Boulos said: “We also raised South Sudan and the urgent need for direct dialogue to return to peace and for South Sudan’s leaders to start using public revenue appropriately to support their people.”

The United States and Norway also said they continue cooperation on humanitarian efforts across Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
