Two men who went missing after armed Ambororo nomads attacked Ibba County in Western Equatoria State, have been found dead in the bush, an official said.

Commissioner of Ibba County Elisama Charles reported that the victims are Moses Samuel, a 19-year-old farmer, and a former policeman only identified as Charles.

“That person who went missing was found dead, it is now two people who died, he (farmer) was found three days after the attack and another was found dead the following day in the bush,” Elisama told Eye Radio.

The commissioner said the 28-year-old ex-police officer’s body was discovered a day after the incident.

He fled into the bush where he died after being shot by the foreign herders.

Elisama said the local government has deployed security forces to protect civilians in the affected areas.

“The issue of Ambororo has become something of a state level but we have deployed forces in the area where people are residing for protection that is what we have done”.

On Friday May 5, 2023, the Director for Legal Affairs at the National Police Service Major General Sadik Ismail said the issue of Ambororo attacks is very serious and requires national government intervention.

These Ambororo are armed nomads they come from Niger and then Mauritania they move with their families and when they come to the area they come with their cattle of thousands,” Major General Ismail said while briefing the media on the countrywide security situation.

“So this is a big situation this thing I think last time was discussed in the security meeting, this thing needs to be handled by the national government it is very serious.”

At least one person was killed and another injured in the first attack by the suspected Ambororo cattle herders in Ibba on May 2nd 2023.

Local authorities in Ezo, Ibba and Tombura counties have since reported multiple attacks on villagers by the wandering Ambororo nomads from Central Africa in the last two months.
