At least one person was killed and another is injured in an attack by suspected Ambororo cattle herders in Ibba County of Western Equatoria State.

Ibba Commissioner Elisama Charles said three men were harvesting honey on Sunday when they were attacked by the Ambororo nomads who migrated to the border area from neighboring Central Africa Republic.

Charles told Eye Radio that the incident occurred in Madebe Payam. He said one of the farmers is missing.

“They went for honey, then Ambororo came and attacked them, they shot at them and killed one, wounded another man was taken to Maridi and up to now the third one is still missing,” he said in an interview with Eye Radio.

“We sent the forces to go and look for him in the forest up to now his whereabouts is unknown and the one killed was buried today.”

Local authorities in Ezo, Ibba and Tombura counties have since reported multiple attacks on villagers by the wandering Ambororo nomads in the last two months.

In March 2023, a local Non-Governmental Organization in the state called on the government to protect civilians in Ibba County and other areas.
