The government has released Major General Manasa Machar Bol Yai, Brigadier General Angelo Kon Garang Kuot, and Ambassador Rita Lotua from National Security detention, according to the Twic Mayardit Youth Association for Development in Juba.
The former Director of Security and Coordination at the Ministry of Petroleum’s release ends months of distress for his family and community, who had received no official reason for his detention since February 2026. It remains unknown if his freedom was granted under specific conditions or terms.
The youth association welcomed the decision, describing it as a positive step toward national unity, reconciliation, and stability in South Sudan.
Speaking during a press conference in Juba, the association’s Chairperson, Daniel Kur Bol Kur, said the releases reflect a leadership committed to peace and social cohesion.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Major General Manasa Machar Bol Yai, Brigadier General Angelo Kon Garang Kuot, and Ambassador Rita Lotua upon regaining their freedom,” Daniel Kur Bol Kur said. “We wish them good health, wisdom, and success as they continue contributing to the service and development of our country.”
He further called on President Salva Kiir to release other individuals who remain in detention.
“We urge His Excellency to also release Ambassador Jing Deng Ajiing, former Executive Director in the Office of the President, as well as Major General Dominic Juk Chom, former Executive Director in the Office of the President. We also appeal for the release of Madam Achan Angoth Achiec, former advisor to the First Lady, activist William Deng Dut Koor, and the rest of the South Sudanese who are still being held by the government,” the youth leader added.
The association noted that the releases have brought immense relief and renewed hope to the families, friends, and communities of those freed, adding that the move strengthens trust and unity among citizens.
