Tonj hosts a peace conference

Author : | Published: Saturday, November 15, 2014

A peace conference is being held in Tonj, Warrap State, to discuss peace and rule of law within the communities and with their neighbors.

The minister of information in the state, Paul Dhel Gum, says national government officials who are members of the community are attending the conference.

He told Eye Radio that the conference will discuss ways of resolving internal conflicts and peaceful co-existence with the neighbors.

“We have known that some years back, Tonj communities use to fight among themselves, even last year there was fighting between Luonjang communities,” Mr Gum said.

Mr Dhel says the conference will also review customary laws that are being used by chiefs to solve disputes among the community members.

The conference will scrutinize some sections of the customary laws to find out if they are compatible with the legal system in the country.

Mr Dhel said more community leaders will be elected at the conference to ensure that the resolutions of the conference are implemented.
