Most schools in Terekeka have been closed due to lack of teachers, the education minister has told Eye Radio.

Taban Emmanuel says some of the teachers were foreign nationals and they fled the country due to the recent conflict.

He said others have left the profession due to low pay.

“As you know the pay for teachers, some teachers could not stay on in those areas especially those that come from other areas,” Mr Emmanuel said.

Last year, authorities in Terekeka said they had hired more than 400 teachers from neighboring countries.
