The leader of the opposition Nation Alliance Dr Lam Akol Ajawin, says IGAD mediators should ensure that the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan is implemented.
He says the mediators need to ensure that the parties adhere to the implementation matrix.
In an exclusive interview with Eye Radio, Dr. Lam, who is also the chairman of the National Alliance, said any violation is a threat to the peace agreement.
“The implementation matrix so that the agreement does not unravel, there are certain things that should happen immediately. So this cannot wait, it must be done, moving quickly so that the bodies in charge monitoring the permanent ceasefire are in place,” he said.
“We are getting reports now of violations of the ceasefire agreement”
Dr. Akol says the three months pre-transitional period is meant for the parties to complete formation the commissions and other bodies tasked with the implementation of the agreement.
He said: “What needs to be done quickly is first is to ensure that monitoring organs are on the ground so that no party violates the ceasefire.”
Dr. Akol says the National Commission for the amendment of the constitution is supposed to start its work as soon as the agreement was signed, and that the transitional constitution of South Sudan must be produced within this period.
