A soldier killed in Maridi random shooting

Author : | Published: Tuesday, June 9, 2015

A soldier was shot dead last night in Maridi county Western Equatoria State. Two civilians were wounded in the incident.

The executive director says this is the continuation of the random shooting in which three civilians were killed yesterday.

Mr John Ezkia Paul told Eye Radio that some civilians are still carrying guns.

He says the situation has however improved and some displaced people are returning to their homes.

“The situation is normal; people are moving freely – some are going back to their houses but the market remains closed,” Mr Ezkia said.

The fighting erupted after a grenade attack on a slaughterhouse in a cattle camp near the town on Sunday, which killed seven cows.

Army spokesman Col Philip Aguer said the community at the cattle camp then reacted to the attack.
