South Africa’s Deputy President David Mabuza officially bowed out on Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced.

Mabuza is reported to have submitted his resignation letter earlier this month.

President Ramaphosa made official the departure of his deputy in Cape Town, and thanked him for his “unwavering support” over the past five years, according to Africanews.

The newly-elected deputy of ruling African National Congress party (ANC), Paul Mashatile, is expected to succeed to David Mabuza.

Mabuza visited South Sudan in 2019 to facilitate a Consultative Meeting of the peace parties and break the deadlock on the issue of the number of states and their boundaries.
