The Embassy of South Sudan in Nairobi says a localized power outage caused by a sudden electrical surge has disrupted some of its consular and administrative services, denying reports that the Mission was closed over rent arrears.

In a press release issued Thursday, August 13, posted on its Facebook page, the Embassy said the Mission “remains fully open and operational” despite the temporary disruption.

The Embassy said the power outage has affected some services, with technical teams working to restore normal operations.

“Consular and administrative services are currently experiencing minor disruptions due to a localized power outage caused by a sudden electrical surge,” the Embassy said.

It added that “full normal power supply is expected to be restored shortly.”

The clarification follows reports circulating on social media alleging that the South Sudanese Embassy in Nairobi had been closed because of unpaid rent.

The Embassy dismissed the reports as “unverified claims and misleading reports,” saying they do not reflect the current status of the Mission.

The Embassy also rejected claims of alleged engagements between the Chargé d’Affaires and third-party political groups regarding the administration or financial operations of the Mission.

“The Mission adheres strictly to established diplomatic protocols and official government procedures,” the statement said.

It described claims of contact or offers of financial assistance to the Mission’s diplomatic leadership as “entirely unfounded and false.”

The Embassy urged the public, media outlets and the South Sudanese diaspora to disregard unverified information and rely on official communications issued through its recognized channels.

The Mission apologized for the inconvenience and thanked the public for its patience as technical teams work to restore the affected services.
