Refugees in Gambella in need of assistance

Author : | Published: Wednesday, October 15, 2014

More than 300,000 South Sudanese refugees in Gambella, Ethiopian, are in dire need of relief aid, a local humanitarian coordinator has said.

These refugees are Terkite, Kule two, Lietchour, Dimma and Panyido in camps.

“The situation there is that they need food and medicine,” Bor Kuany said.

Mr. Kunay urged the international community to focus its attention on the situation of South Sudanese refugees in Ethiopian and those in other neighboring countries.

“I am encouraging the international community not to only focus on the IDPs; they should also consider helping children and the people who are also displaced very far from South Sudan,” he added.

Most of the refugees there are said to be living in poor conditions. There are schools for children to go to.

“They are living under trees, leave alone talking about education. They cannot even have enough food on their table.”

The South Sudanese refugees in Ethiopia are mainly those who escaped the fighting in conflict affected areas in Upper Nile region.
