Six people were killed during cattle-related attacks by armed men in Uror County of Jonglei State.

The state information minister, John Samuel Manyuon describes the situation as alarming.

Minister Manyuon said armed youth suspected to have come from Pibor Administrative Area carried out coordinated attacks on the area in the last three days.

“In Uror, the security situation is actually alarming because there have been coordinated attacks by armed criminals from the Greater Pibor Administrative area,” he said.

The official told Eye Radio that six people were killed, thousands of others displaced and an unknown number of cattle have been raided.

“So far now six people and several cattle that are not yet identified have been raided by these armed criminals in the last three days.”

“And people have been displaced especially the people of Motot, the people of Pierri, the people of Bulchuol, and the people of Parachuet. So, all these people have been displaced by the fear of these coordinated attacks.”

The attack happens only days after similar inter-communal violence was reported in Gumuruk County of Pibor.

Authorities in the special administrative area said last Saturday that gunmen from the neighboring Jonglei State attacked the area, displacing an unspecified number of people.

The violence killed 56 people and displaced thousands into Pibor town and UNMISS outposts.

Minister Manyuon further said the national government has been slow to intervene despite several appeals by authorities from both regions.

“There have been gaps in terms of the National government intervention and these are caused, and we are trying to come back to our peaceful way of living where the government set its mandate of protecting the lives of the citizen.”

“On the other side, the only solution that can help in this situation is the disarmament of the civilians especially across the state and across Greater Pibor Administrative areas.”
