Prof Adwok Nyaba accuses UWBG of Politicizing relocation of Med Students

Author : | Published: Tuesday, June 11, 2013

The Ministry of Higher Education has accused Bhar El Ghazal University authorities of resisting plans to relocate medical students to Juba University.

Hundreds of medical students have not had classes since 2010 after their lecturers reportedly quit over little pay and poor working conditions.

Education Minister Peter Adwok Nyaba told Eye Radio that the National Council of Higher Education had come up with a resolution to relocate the students from Bhar El Ghazal to Juba University but that the Vice Chancellor failed to take any action:

“They have politicized this move. It and now is a problem now that the students are not learning and they are not coming to Juba. Somebody has resisted that move. There is little we can do; we are waiting for high authority in the Country to make a decision.”

The Vice Chancellor of Bhar El Ghazal University declined to talk to Eye Radio about the accusations.

Students had threatened to burn down the medical school if their issues, including the lack teachers were not addressed.
