Authorities of the Juba National Prison have formed a fact-finding committee to investigate allegations by a female inmate who claimed a warden impregnated her in sexual exploitation.
In an hour and two-minute video shared on social media on the 27th of January 2024, Akon Akuei Ajou accused two prison officials of sexual exploitation resulting in her pregnancy.
Akon who says she is now five months pregnant, alleges that the male warders hold the keys to the female section at the prison.
The video that went viral, was watched by close to six thousand people as of Monday, sparking social media outrage.
When caught up by Eye Radio, the director of the Juba National Prison,Ā Lt General Atok Atem Barac says the institution has formed three members headed by a Lieutenant Colonel to investigate the matter.

“We have formed a fact-finding committee on the case the committee will submit its final report to the administration within three days,” Maj. Gen. Atok told Eye Radio.
“We will investigate with the hospital to find out when she visited the hospital and with whom, as well as examine the record book to find out the date of the visit,” he said.
“The suspected pregnancy happened after some inmates accused her of being pregnant, and the prison administration took her to the prison clinic to confirm the pregnancy.
“We examined her in Juba Hospital to confirm that she was pregnant in the fifth month.”
Akon was convicted of murder in 2020 and was sentenced to death for killing a woman she suspected had love affairs with her husband.
According to the prison official, there are 120 female inmates including 5 on death row.
