The presidential advisor on Economic Affairs says the need for peace and stability is forcing South Sudan to join the East African community soon.

It’s expected that South Sudan will be admitted to the regional economic bloc during a summit of regional leaders at the end of next month.

To bring peace and improve the economy, Agrey Tisa says it is important to join the bloc.

He was reacting to questions raised to him during Eye Radio’s Dawn show this morning.

Majority of the callers criticized the government for the move, saying the country does not need to hurry to join the bloc.

“I think we are too young; we cannot join the group at this time. First of all we should have to maintain ourselves by bringing peace to the people,” said Kidit Mayom.

“We still don’t have the capacity. We don’t have intellectuals, no whatever and there will be free movement of people, good and capital, is it not going to drain our country?” Asked Robert.

However, Mr Tisa said the government has decided to enter the block as a way to bring peace and stability in order to improve the economy.

“It is this issue of peace that is very compelling for South Sudan to join the East Africa Community. The issue of peace and stability as a basis for production and investment is at the core of East African treaty,” he added.
