Kenya’s President William Ruto, and South Sudan’s security chiefs on Tuesday discussed regional peace and security at the State House in Nairobi, Kenya.

In a post on his Facebook page, President Ruto says Kenya is committed to enhancing cooperation with South Sudan as well as Somalia to build durable peace in the East African Community.

The Kenyan President held a meeting with three senior government officials from South Sudan and Somalia.

The officials include Gen Akol Koor, Gen Simon Yien Makuac, and Somalia’s Foreign Affairs Ali Mohamed Omer.

The Kenyan President says the leaders talked on matters of mutual interest including expanding trade and securing the stability and prosperity of East Africa by working together to combat terrorism, resolve conflicts, and build a durable peace across the region.

“Our goal is to expand trade, secure the stability, and prosperity of East Africa to combat terrorism, resolve conflict, and build a durable peace across the region,” stated President Ruto in a post.

This came after President Salva Kiir requested the Kenyan President to host and mediate peace between the government and hold-out groups in Nairobi, Kenya.
