A civil society activist is calling on President Salva Kiir to hold accountable politicians fueling the conflict between the Abyei-Twic violence.

Edmond Yakani’s call came a day after the Deputy Chief Administrator of Abyei Noon Deng Nyok was killed along with five others in a road ambush near Agok area.

This occurred while they were on their way to attend the New Year’s Day Prayers in Jouljok Parish on Sunday.

Yakani says the feud between the neighbouring communities has taken too long and several peace dialogues failed to end the violence.

He believes that those behind the conflict are elites who are based in the national capital Juba and the diaspora.

While hailing the recent peace tour by greater Bahr el Ghazal governors, Yakani described the incident as a slap on the face of the leaders.

He appealed to the President to promptly act and end the violence.

“The killing of the Honorable Deputy Chief Administrative of Abei administrative area is a slap on the face of the political leadership of Bar Al Gazal region, who are promoting peace in the region,” said Yakani.

“I think His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit need to take a strong step in finding the best way to resolve the ongoing deadly violence between Ngok Dinka and Tonj Mayardit Dinka,” he said.

“We also keep on saying the perpetrators of this violence are political leaders, who are close to His Excellency President either based in Juba or based in Diaspora.

“We would like again to repeat that His Excellency President need to personally decide on intervention to end this dispute between the Ngok Dinka and Toj Mayardit Dinka.”
