Peter Lam Both appointed SPLM Acting Secretary General

The SPLM has appointed Peter Lam Both as its new Acting Secretary-General.

He replaces Jemma Nunu Kumba who was appointed speaker of the national parliament last month.

Before his new assignment, Peter Lam served as the SPLM Secretary for Information, Culture and Communication.

He is expected to champion the political and administrative activities of the SPLM through its Secretariat and state offices.

The immediate former Acting Secretary-General, Jemma Nunu said the new interim senior SPLM official will begin with the “reorganization and restructuring of the party.”

The SG is also expected to facilitate preparations for the SPLM convention.

Mr. Lam has worked in various capacities in the SPLM and government since 2005.

Between 2008 – 2012, he served as the SPLM Deputy Secretary for External Affairs.

Peter Lam Both also held the position of Minister of Information Broadcasting and Communication – Upper Nile State in 2011.

Between 2012 and 2013, he was appointed as the Chairperson for the South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission.

Then in 2015, President Salva Kiir appointed him as the first Governor of the defunct Latjoor state until 2017.

Mr. Lam became the SPLM Acting Secretary for Administration and Finance from 2019 to 2020.

He also served as the Deputy Coordinator of the South Sudan National Dialogue.

Peter Lam Both is said to have extensive experience in political affairs and international relations, and the development and humanitarian sector.
