Angry residents of Tonj South County in Warrap state have clobbered to death a hyena that killed three people in the area.
The hyena is also believed to have mauled four other people who are now recovering from bite wounds.
It attacked its victims in two different homes last Saturday.
Residents say the hyena first attacked and killed 26-year-old Nyalong Madut, and another 10-year-old boy identified as Bol Deng Bol.
It then moved to a house of a man identified as Warwien Dhorjang and killed him in Tiopic residential area.
The angry residents then captured the hyena and beat it to death.
“The neighbors killed it after they heard people wailing,” said Ring Deng, Warrap State Minister of Information.
This is not the first time three people have lost their lives due to human-wildlife conflict in South Sudan.
In 2019, three family members were also killed and three others injured when a hyena attacked their home in Pathai Payam of Upper Nile state.
