Passengers beat suspected attacker unconscious

Passengers of a vehicle traveling from Kajo-Keji beat up an armed man who tried to ambush them on the road to Juba on Sunday.

An MP representing Kajo- Keji in the State Legislative Assembly, Jacob Kweyansuk says the 12 passengers beat the gunman into coma.

He says they then handed him over to the authorities.

Meanwhile, the state Minister of Local Government and law enforcement, Oliver Mule Gabriel says forces will be deployed to escort vehicles moving on Juba-Kajo Keji road.

He urged transport companies to halt movement on the road for the authorities to finish the arrangement.

“What I want to assure the public is that at least the state Government has taken it upon itself to ensure that between now upto the next two months period, movement between Kajo-Keji and Juba is going to be under escort,” Mr Mule says.

“And then possibly similar arrangement might also be done for Yei-Juba,” he said.

He said the government will “start with Juba Kajo-Keji because this is where there are too frequent cases of the ambushes on the way”.

Two weeks ago on the Juba –Kajokeji road, gunmen stopped a convoy of three passenger vehicles near a military barrak, asked the passengers out of the vehicles and shot five of them dead.

Mr. Mule says the deployment may start this week.
