Ateny Wek Ateny -Presidential Press Secretary.

The office of the President says stories about a plot to kill the governors of the Equatoria States are just rumors.

It says there is no truth in stories that Salva Kiir had authorized assassinations.

The Presidential Press Secretary says the government wants to put an end to rumors that have been circulating on social media.

“President Kiir is on records that he is not amongst the people who detain or plan to kill people in cool bloods,” Mr Ateny told the media.

Ateny Wek Ateny told Eye Radio, that rumors had come from a website called Nyamapedia.  And that it was written by a South Sudanese living in Canada.

Mr. Ateny also dismissed reports that the government has ordered media houses not to report about federalism.

He said the public are free to discuss the federal system of government.

“Article 24 in the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan talks about freedom of expression and this freedom of expression allows you to talk about anything,” he added.

“But there are redlines, because the country has its authority, but you are not allowed to glorify rebellion in the media inside South Sudan.”

Yesterday, the Governor of Western Equatoria State also dismissed what he said were rumours of a plot.

Bangassi Joseph Bakosoro said stories that the President was planning to arrest the three governors of Equatoria States were false.
