The Head Teacher of Nimule Model Secondary School in Eastern Equatoria State has expressed disappointment over the decision by the National Examinations Council to nullify the results of 87 candidates from the school following an investigation into examination malpractice.

The Council announced on Tuesday that the results were canceled after investigations revealed a serious breach of examination rules and regulations. In the same case, 23 candidates from other schools implicated in the cheating scandal were awarded zero scores.

Speaking in reaction to the decision, the Head Teacher, Oryem Francis, said the cancellation of all results would have far-reaching consequences for the affected learners and could discourage many from continuing their education.

“My center is not only affected but is also experiencing great distress as I speak. The overall mood among the learners and teachers is one of sorrow and suffering,” Oryem said.

He appealed to the authorities to consider alternative measures instead of nullifying the entire results, arguing that the punishment could unfairly affect students’ futures.

“If there has been a mistake, there should be alternative ways to resolve it. Canceling all the results entirely could have serious negative consequences. Some students may choose not to return to school, and others might drop out altogether,” he said.

Oryem further warned that many learners could lose motivation to re-register for examinations or continue with their studies.

“Many learners may no longer re-register or continue their education. If errors have occurred, I kindly ask for understanding and forgiveness. We are human, and we can make mistakes,” he added.

The National Examinations Council has not yet commented on whether it will review its decision.
