Two newborn twins are receiving treatment at St. Daniel Comboni Hospital in Wau after losing their mother just days after birth, leaving their family appealing for urgent support to help care for the infants.

The baby boy and girl are currently receiving treatment at St. Daniel Comboni Hospital after their mother died six days after delivering them at home in Kayango.

Speaking to Voice of Hope Radio, the twins’ grandmother, Mary Aliny Anthony, said her daughter-in-law delivered at home because there was no nearby health facility.

She said the family was devastated by the mother’s death, leaving her and the children’s father responsible for caring for the newborns.

Aliny Anthony said the family depends on small-scale farming, which cannot meet the twins’ needs for nutrition, medical care, and other necessities.

She appealed to well-wishers, humanitarian organizations, churches, and members of the public to support the family with baby formula, clothing, medical assistance, and other basic supplies.

Meanwhile, the officer in charge of the Pediatric Ward and Neonatal Unit at St. Daniel Comboni Hospital, Moter Achuil Moter, said the twins were born in mid-July and are currently receiving medical care.

He said there are no records showing that the late mother attended antenatal care, partly due to limited access to health services in the area where she lived.

Moter warned that the twins’ biggest challenge after discharge will be proper nutrition, saying their health could deteriorate without adequate feeding and continued care.

He called on individuals and organizations of goodwill to assist the grandmother in supporting the children.

Hospital officials and the family say support is urgently needed to ensure the twins receive adequate nutrition, healthcare, clothing, and other basic needs.
