The National Ministry of Health has trained nine biomedical technicians and engineers to operate and maintain the new oxygen plant.

Last week, the World Health Organization and African Development Bank installed the country’s first large medical oxygen feedstock.

The 240 cylinder plant includes 4-year spare parts kits based at Juba Teaching Hospital.

According to an official, the oxygen plant will support coronavirus patients in critical condition.

“You know we are facing problems of oxygen for patients who are at Dr. John Garang Infectious Center – especially those who are infected with Covid-19,” said Dr. Maker Isaac Wal, Medical Director of Juba Teaching Hospital.

“So it is good news for South Sudan and for the people who will need oxygen now and in the future.”

He said the staffs have been trained on how to handle the oxygen plant.

The new plant will be used to refill oxygen cylinders for supply to local and remote health facilities.

“It is pure oxygen, the capacity is very big and it’s going to supply all hospitals in Juba.”

It was manufactured in France by NOVAIR.
