The Ministry of Justice is considering establishing a Mental Health Unit within its Commission for Transitional Justice, a move announced following a four-day workshop in Juba.

According to a post on Ministry’s official Facebook Page, the new unit aims to ensure mental health support is fully integrated into the country’s ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts.

The workshop, held December 1–4 and organized with the African Union and the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR), focused on implementing the African Union Transitional Justice Policy in South Sudan.

Minister of Justice Michael Makuei Lueth highlighted the importance of mental health in helping victims and survivors heal.

He said mental health support is essential for reconciliation and national healing.

Participants, including African Union Ambassador Abdidwelli Mohamed Ali and CSVR Head Annah Moyo, discussed strategies to improve services for conflict-affected populations and issued recommendations to guide the government’s transitional justice efforts.
