A young man mysteriously drowned in Ayi River of Mundri West County, Western Equatoria State on Saturday.

Martin Gishon Katawa is said to have gone to freshen up in the river after laying bricks with his two relatives.

“He was working somewhere in the bush making bricks and afterwards, they wanted to take shower,” says Mundri West Commissioner Zelipha Dawa Justin.

Commissioner Zelipha said the deceased bewildered his two relatives, when he told them he could not survive any longer while they were swimming in the river.

“They started to swim in the river while they were three and suddenly he started to talk that I cannot survive anymore I am going to die then the two did not understand what he was saying.”

He then vanished and drowned, before his body was found trapped in fishing hooks, according to the official.

“He disappeared deeply in the water, and people went there to search for him and they found him in the hooks.”

Before his death, Martin was the captain of a local football team and also a church choir at Miri Kalanga Parish.
