The Mayor of Juba City, Michael Ladu Allah-Jabu has dissolved the national Boda-boda Association following last week’s riots.

On Friday, angry youth ransacked and set fire to offices of the Boda-boda Association in protest over the killing of a young man by a police officer on Thursday.

During the confrontation, four people sustained gunshot wounds while 100 motorcycles were stolen, according to the police.

The incident prompted the City Council to suspend the activities of the troubled association after a request by the Central Equatoria State Ministry of Local Government, according to the press secretary of the Mayor.

Josephine Haizaza, the Mayor’s Press Secretary said the City Council has taken charge and will handle the activities of the Boda-boda Association.

“It’s true (the Mayor of Juba City Council has cancelled the activities of the Boda-boda Association) but the decision came from the state Ministry of Local Government and Law Enforcement,” she said.

“They asked for the cancelling of the activities of the national Boda-boda Association and so, from the issue of the local order, all activities of the Boda-boda Association will be under the office of the mayor,” she added.
