The National Ministry of Health has convened its Annual Ministerial Advisory Board Meeting in Juba to review progress under the Health Sector Transformation Project (HSTP) and set priorities for strengthening South Sudan’s healthcare system.
The meeting, being chaired by Health Minister Luke Thompson Thoan Teny, brought together key stakeholders to assess achievements, challenges, and next steps in implementing the project.
Discussions focused on expanding access to essential health and nutrition services and improving healthcare delivery across the country.
Launched in July 2024, the HSTP is a government-led initiative aimed at transforming South Sudan’s health sector from a system heavily dependent on humanitarian assistance into a more resilient and sustainable national healthcare system. The project seeks to expand access to basic health and nutrition services, strengthen health sector governance, and improve service delivery nationwide.
The programme is funded through a multi-donor trust fund led by the World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Health in partnership with UNICEF and World Health Organization. It supports more than 1,100 health facilities across South Sudan’s ten states and three administrative areas.
The ministry said recommendations and outcomes from the meeting will be shared after the discussions conclude.
