Aweil gamblers beat fellow to death over ‘non-stop’ winning

The police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have arrested six men accused of killing a man over relentless winning during a gambling game in Aweil West County.

According to the state police spokesperson, Captain Guot Guot Akol, the incident happened at 5 PM in Marol Akoon market on Wednesday.

The deceased, identified as 25-year-old Akot Akot reportedly won several rounds of the cards game, infuriating his gambling friends.

“It happened that, the late Akot Akot 25-year-old won several rounds of the game and he collected a lot of money and decided to leave,” said the police official.

Captain Akol said the young man was about to leave the gambling match when the suspected culprits got angry and beat him to death.

“So, his game mate got angry and one person attacked him in the stomach and he died after one hour. As a result, six people we apprehended by the police are under custody for investigation, and one is still at large.”

The state police have declined to identify the perpetrators.
