Some traders are counting losses after fire gutted their shops at Jebel market in Juba Wednesday evening.

According to the shop owners, the fire outbreak started at around 8 pm and razed through several shops before being put off by water suppliers at 11 pm.

Major General Daniel Justine, the Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident to Eye Radio.

He says no causality has been reported and authorities are investigating the cause of the fire outbreak.

“It was yesterday evening [Wednesday, 28th December 2022] when the fire broke out in the market in the area of vegetables,”

“We went there and now we launched an investigation to assess the total losses. No life was lost in the process, but we are still investigating the cause and damages.”

Fire outbreaks are commonly reported in Juba and other parts of the country, especially during the dry season.
