Ibba women suffer loss of SSP5 million savings to robbery

The Chairlady of Ibba Women Resource Centre in Western Equatoria State has confirmed the robbery of more than 5 million South Sudan pounds from their office on Monday evening.

Agnes Michael said a robber broke into their lending house at around 9 PM and stole an amount of five million, five hundred thousand South Sudanese pounds and other relevant documents.

Ms. Michael said the incident has deprived the struggling women of their savings and left them in despair.

She narrated that the burglar used a machete to break the door before entering the house and looting the money. Ms. Michael added that the robber allegedly knew about the whereabouts of the money.

“They stole our money on Monday at around 9 PM. People heard the noise even the police heard the noise it was once, while they were breaking in,” he said.

“They broke the outside padlock and open the door. They money they have stolen is amount of five million and five hundred thousand South Sudanese Pounds.”

Ms. Michael, however, explained how this money used to help them in activities such as business support and school fee. This is what she had to say.

“This money is saved by women for different purposes. They can be lending to other women and be returned with some interest. It is used to support women operating small businesses.”

“It is also used to pay school fees for our children when one is in need. Every Monday we save 10,000SSP and share money is SSP4,000.”

She said the Ibba Women Resource Centre has filled a police case and to help trace the culprit.
