At least four people were shot dead and five others left wounded in Ulang County of Upper Nile State in a night raid by armed youth, an official said.

Ulang Commissioner, Riek Gach Gatluak also said four children were abducted and unspecified cattle were stolen.

Gatluak said the four victims were three men and one woman.

“The Murle [armed youth] came at 8 pm they killed four people and abducted four children, and wounded five people. Of those killed, three are men and one woman,” he said.

The incident reportedly occurred in Kur Muot Payam on the evening of Sunday, May 28, 2023.

The commissioner said the local government is investigating the incident adding that there are no forces in the county to protect civilians.

“They took all cattle in the village of Kur-Muot payam of Ulang County the people that followed are still not back, they are still after the attackers.”

“The government cannot do anything because I gave the information to the government and there are no forces in the county because they are not deployed. I am running the County without soldiers to protect the civilians.”
